NORTH PORT, Fla. (SNN TV) — Next time you go to a North Port park, you may see some bat houses you didn’t see before.
That’s because Girl Scout volunteer Krysta Fowler installed bat houses at Dallas White Park, Garden of Five Senses, and Blue Ridge Park.
North Port Parks & Rec said Krysta completed extensive research for this project and also donated the materials.
She’s installing these houses and providing outreach about bats with the pursuit of achieving a Gold Award, which is a prestige award in the Girl Scouts.
On the city’s website, North Port shares that Florida’s bats are losing natural roosting sites in trees and caves. They can then turn up in buildings.
Due to these issues, Parks and Recreation previously installed bat houses at Butler Park with the assistance of two groups: Environmental Conservancy and Volunteers of Coastal & Heartland Natural Estuary Partnership.
