SARASOTA – Nearly every Wednesday, deceased veterans with no next of kin are honored at the Sarasota National Cemetery. We speak to a veteran who comes almost weekly to these observances. His name is Eugune Dolecki, a member of the Knights of Columbus organization.

“Most of us are, who come here are, in fact, veterans ourselves and basically we become the family of uh, the extended family of the veterans who are here because they don’t have immediate family; they’re here alone. The veterans basically they put their lives on hold and basically wrote a blank check to Uncle Sam. And uh, it’s, they are the thin line that protects us and our security and all of our freedoms. They are entitled to honor, respect and remembrance. And we’re gonna continue doing it until we’re interred ourselves here.”
