SARASOTA — You want to talk about setting the tone from the get go. Senior Josie McCrea struck out 19 batters in Booker’s 2018 season opener.
“Found out it was a school record and all and it was really cool,” Josie McCrea said.
All in all, playing two years at Booker after transferring from Bradenton Christian was a great decision for Josie.
“It was a blessing, I am happy I got to play here. I am grateful for Booker they helped me out through a lot.”
McCrea was in the circle for all 23 of Booker’s softball games this year, throwing more than twenty one hundred pitches, across 112 innings, while striking out more than 200 opponents.
“She takes a lead role, but she is very uplifting to the other girls,” Tina McCrea said.
For Josie’s mom, Tina having the chance to share the dugout with her daughter in the spring was something she will forever cherish.
“To be able to coach her senior year was a blessing,” Tina said.
A lot of the credit comes back to Tornado Alley, where Josie was able to hone the skills.
“She flourished and really became a phenomenal player and student because of the staff here at Booker,” Tina said.
Next up for Josie, an athletic scholarship to continue her softball career at Catawba Valley Community College, in Hickory, North Carolina.
“It is a real nice campus, a beautiful area, I am really excited to start playing softball for them,” Josie said.

“I am ready to start getting better,” Josie said.
