PUNTA GORDA (SNN-TV) – October’s Carl Reynolds Law Student-Athlete of the Month is only two years into playing football in Charlotte County, but has immediately made his mark on the program and his community.

“He’s the first one to show up to practice, he’s the last one to leave the weightroom. Honestly, a great kid. Words can’t even describe what he means to the program and what type of leadership he brings to the team.” – Coach Cory Mentzer, Charlotte HS

Charlotte High football coach Cory Mentzer is speaking glowingly about senior defensive tackle, Dameyon Bloomfield. Dameyon is the Tarpons leading tackler and leader in character. Tallying 58 total tackles, 17 TFL’s and 2 sacks, Bloomfield imposes his will defensively.

Only beginning to play varsity sports two years ago, Dameyon first found passion in the classroom, touting a 3.5 GPA, with a special interest in Sports Medicine. Whether it was helping raise his younger siblings, working jobs to pay for Ubers to practice, or setting a silent example for teammates, Dameyon was always up to the challenge.

“I was always have to be doing the right things, so the younger kids will know what to do. Even though I’m not a very vocal person, I just try to be that person that they can look to.” – Dameyon Bloomfield

While Charlotte’s record does not reflect the ideal notion of success, Coach Mentzer couldn’t ask for a better role model or a better teammate than what he has in Dameyon Bloomfield, defining him as a pillar of the program that he’s building.

“Just his presence and leading by example, all the younger kids see it. We joke, but we want to make sure to ‘Be like Dameyon’, just because that’s the standard of Charlotte High football…Dameyon Bloomfield.”

Of course, being new to the sport, many recruiters have yet to discover Dameyon, but the senior run stopper does have interest from various colleges like, Gannon University, UNC-Pembroke, and Erskine College. Coach Mentzer, Dameyon and the rest of the Fightin‘ Tarpons are at home this Friday, as they host Lehigh at 7pm.
