SARASOTA – A local pet store is working with their sheriff’s office to find a stolen $500 parrot.

Seascape Aquarium and Pet Center is hoping to find thieves who stole a blue parrot earlier this month. In the video, the woman in black is stuffing the blue parrot in her pocket while a worker is distracted.

The other woman is buying a much cheaper bird with her credit card at the same time. Seascape says they gave the card number to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and hope to get the woman’s full name.

Sales associate Chris Goins finding the bird is more important than bringing the women to justice.

“I just want the bird back. Maybe if they felt sorry and they actually brought it back, that would change it. I don’t think they’re sorry at this point and I don’t think the bird’s alive either,” Goins says.

Because the bird was stuffed in a small space and unable to move or speak, Goins thinks the parrot may have died before the women left the store. Birds have small lungs and no diaphragm, meaning it may have suffocated.

He says the idea that someone could steal and possibly kill one of their birds hurts more than anything.

If you have any information that can help them, call the Sarasota County sheriff’s Office at (941) 316-1201.
