NORTH PORT – The North Port City Commission will begin phase one of its Warm Mineral Springs master plan.
According to the Herald-Tribune, this phase will restore three structures in the Warm Mineral Springs Activity Center, extend city water and sewer lines, and reconstruct the parking lot for a little over $9 million.
The commission voted 3 to 2 on a pair of votes, with Vice Mayor Pete Emrich and Commissioner Barbara Langdon voting against it, saying alternate funding sources can take place.
Commissioner Debbie McDowell noted that the park is an “asset” that costs around $48,000 a month to operate, but just in April, the park made around $157,000.
That’s with the buildings in disarray.
McDowell says Visit Sarasota will likely really plug Warm Mineral Springs as a place to visit once renovations finish.
She thinks nobody plugs it because right now “it looks like crap.”
