SARASOTA – Some of the brave men and women who battle Parkinson’s Disease got to show off their fashion sense at a packed Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall f
or the Neuro Challenge Foundation’s Cause for Fashion.
“What we’re going to see today is a lot of empowered people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers taking the stage and they’re going to hear some stories about why the work we do at Neuro-Challenge is important with their journey with the disease,” Neuro Challenge Executive Director Robyn Faucy-Washington said.
Parkinson’s sufferer and runway model Carolina Murphy wanted to prove Friday that Parkinson’s doesn’t own her.
“They’re going to see that Parkinson’s doesn’t own us and we want to make sure that we can live as normal life as possible and modeling is just another way for us showing that we’re just like everybody else,” Murphy said.
This is the 10th annual Cause for Fashion but the first year it completely sold out with more than 300 people to watch.
“The fashion show is an opportunity for us to show the community that people with Parkinson’s can be empowered and that they do want to live life well. So, they are an inspiration for every single one of us.” Faucy-Washington said.
