KIEV – After calling Russia’s actions a genocide, President Joe Biden receives praise from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

During a stop in Iowa, President Biden called Vladimir Putin a dictator and accused him of committing genocide. Biden stood by those remarks when asked by reporters.

“I called it genocide because it’s become clearer and clearer that Putin is just trying to wipe out even the idea of being Ukrainian. The evidence is mounting, it’s different than it was last week the more evidence that’s coming out of the horrible things that the Russians have done in Ukraine, and we can only learn more and more about the devastation, and we’ll let the lawyers decide on whether or not it qualifies, but it sure seems that way to me,” Biden says.

In response, Zelenskyy praised Biden and the U.S.’s support for Ukraine. In a tweet, Zelenskyy said, “True words of a true leader@POTUS. Calling things by their names is essential to stand up to evil. We are grateful for US assistance provided so far and we urgently need more heavy weapons to prevent further Russian atrocities.”

NBC News reporter Gabe Gutierrez reported today that he visited a second kindergarten that was obliterated by a Russian attack, with shelling in the region injuring 22 people including children, and killing 7.
