LONDON, ENGLAND (SNN-TV) – Wimbledon will not allow players from Russia and Belarus at this year’s tournament. This is an unprecedented move by any of the major tennis events.

It’s a decision that’s a step further than any other tennis tournament to date — with Russians having been permitted to take part under a neutral flag, since the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

Three of the women’s top 20, and two of the men’s top 10 are affected – including world number 2 Daniil Medvedev.

As things stand, they’re able to take part at the second major of the year, the French Open, which starts on May 22nd.

Wimbledon kicks off on June 27th.
