(WSNN) – It’s the holiday weekend, which means there are a lot of events to look out for.
Get ready, get set go! The Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix kicks off tonight with a block party in downtown Sarasota on Gulfstream Avenue from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It will feature boats, teams, live music, drinks, and more. Racing begins at Lido Beach on Saturday at 8 a.m. with P1 AquaX personal watercraft racing, followed by P1 Offshore powerboat testing, and then World Powerboat Championship teams competing for pole position. Then on Sunday, there will be a full day of racing with P1 AquaX, P1 Offshore and the high-speed Class 1 boats zooming along the shoreline. You can find all the event details here.

Of course, you can’t have a 4th of July weekend without fireworks. Nathan Benderson Park is hosting its annual Fireworks show on the Lake, Sunday at 5 p.m. at Regatta Island. You can expect live music by rockers Matthew Johns Band and the local rising country star Derek Lersch Band. There will also be food and drinks, a kids’ zone, and a four-mile run. Parking ranges in cost, but admission is free. For more information, you can click here.

And deck out your dog in red, white, and blue at the Inaugural Paws for Purpose charitable Event. It’s happening at the Sarasota’s Farmers Market, Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s an event meant to Support Veterans and Service Dogs. The American Advertising Federation is partnering with My Service Dog’s Place, a non-profit helping veterans. Your donation will get you professional photographs of your furry friend. And prepare your tummies for lots of food at one of the largest food truck rally in the region. There will be more than 40 food trucks, a kids’ zone, along with free entry and parking. It’s happening Saturday and Sunday in the parking lot of The Mall at University Town Center. You can find the details here.
