LEXINGTON, KY (SNN-TV) – The Kentucky Wildcats journeyed from out of the losers’ bracket and into the Super Regionals following last night’s 4-2 victory over Indiana.

Seven Wildcats were selected to the Lexington Regional All-Tournament Team, including former Braden River star, Ryan Waldschmidt.

Waldschmidt went 1-for-4 with an RBI-double in last night’s win, adding to an already successful first season in Lexington following his transfer from Charleston Southern. The sophomore has appeared 56 games, hitting .289 with 5 HR, 36 RBI, and 17 stolen bases on the year.

Heading into their next round match-up with LSU, Waldschmidt tells SNN this Kentucky team should not be counted out or discredited.

“It is surreal. A lot of people didn’t really believe in this team. In the preseason, it was like, ‘Kentucky is just like every other year, middle of the pack, doesn’t do too much, doesn’t cause too much noise’. I think we have a lot of guys on this team who are confident in being able to make that next step. We all play with that chip on our shoulder, and we’re just two more wins away from doing something that’s never happened before in this program’s history. It’s pretty awesome to think about.”

Kentucky’s best-of-three super regional in Baton Rouge will start Saturday at 3 p.m., broadcast on ESPN, with Game 2 on Sunday and Game 3, if needed, on Monday. Start times for the last two games will be announced at a later date.
