SARASOTA – Coronavirus fear on the Suncoast have caused voting locations to change as poll workers quit.

The Herald-Tribune is reporting nearly 10% of poll workers in Sarasota County have quit. Elections Supervisor Ron Turner says due to limited staff 15 voting sites will change locations before the Florida Primaries on Tuesday March 17th.

Tuner says he is expecting to lose more staff amid coronavirus concerns.

“This is probably something seeing across the state of Florida, I don’t necessarily think this is unique to Sarasota Count,” said Turner. “There could be a variety of reasons I mean we always lose some before an elections, but obviously we’re in a different state now with of course COVID-19, and the coronavirus, and we’re all adapting.”

Turner said 60 out 600 poll workers hired are deciding to not work Election Day. Manatee County officials are also reporting staff quitting abruptly over coronavirus concerns.
