SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – Team USA Baseball alumni like Bryce Harper and Alex Rodriguez, as well as Japan’s Shohei Ohtani and Cuba’s Aroldis Chapman, have all played in the WBSC U-18 World Cup, and come September the Suncoast will be witness to “Tomorrow’s stars Today.”

USA Baseball announced today it will host the World Baseball Softball Confederation U-18 Baseball World Cup in Sarasota and Bradenton, from September 9-18.

The event will be hosted in the United States for the first time since 1995. Originally slated to take place in 2021, the event was rescheduled due to the Covid-19 global pandemic.

The top 12 under-18 teams from around the globe will be competing for the WBSC Baseball World Cup title with regional representation from Africa, North and South America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.

Three games will be played each day between Sarasota’s Ed Smith Stadium and Bradenton’s LECOM Park. A total of 50 games will be played, with the tournament’s gold and bronze medal games taking place at Ed Smith Stadium on Sunday, September 18.
