NEW JERSEY (SNN TV) – A Trump campaign official says the former president spoke Thursday at a fundraiser for defendants charged in the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach. The fundraiser was hosted at Trump’s private golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

It was for the Patriot Freedom Project, a group that helps families of those charged in the riot. In a video, Trump says he plans to make a contribution to the group. At least one defendant was in attendance, along with some family members of others charged.

Trump’s remarks come as prosecutors at the state and federal levels continue to investigate his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

More than a thousand people have been charged in the January 6 Capitol riots. About 620 defendants have already been convicted of crimes.

At his CNN town hall last month, Trump said he’s inclined to pardon many of those charged, if re-elected.
