SARASOTA – Thursday’s torrential downpours caused severe street flooding all across the Suncoast.
Including here right in front of our station; this is U.S. 301 and 6th St. just after 5 p.m. Sarasota Police had to step in and direct traffic to make sure all drivers on the roadways stayed safe, but most importantly to not get stalled out in standing water.
But unfortunately for some, the risk of getting through some of the flooded streets proved to be more of a headache. Several cars near 8th St. and Lime Ave got caught in water nearly three feet deep.
As the water rose past the sidewalks SPD prevented more cars from getting stuck during rush hour. SNN’s Chief Meteorologist Justin Mosely says to expect more downpours heading into this weekend.
Sarasota and Manatee County will remain in a flood warning until Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m
