MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (SNN TV) — A paramedic reunites with the two-year-old patient whose life he saved.

Pediatric patient Nolan Backus arrived at the West Bradenton EMS Base today with his mom Julia Backus and reconnected with Charge Paramedic Kevin Guido.

Guido helped save Nolan’s life months ago when Nolan experienced a very high fever which led to medical complications.

Nolan was able to pretend to drive a real ambulance, which is fitting because both he and his mom are big observers of medical professionals. They stop to watch helicopters and ambulances ferry other patients to nearby Blake Hospital.

“We’re forever grateful that he’s here,” Backus said. “He didn’t suffer any damage. I mean, he’s a smart little cookie and now obsessed with all medical emergency vehicles. So we appreciate it.”

Nolan also opened his own toy ambulance from Guido as an early Christmas present.
