SARASOTA-MANATEE (WSNN) – We are witnessing the first round of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.  Most will go to health care workers, nursing home residents, and other high-risk groups.  So, what are our Suncoast neighbors thinking about the vaccine?

The United States distributed a COVID-19 vaccination this week and Florida is receiving nearly 180,000 doses. So, I reached out to the Suncoast to see what their thoughts are on this. Is it a step in the right direction or not?

“I would not get the vaccine, I’m more of the kind of let your body fight it off kind of thing,” Sarasota resident, Stephanie Prince said.

“I think ultimately to get some traction on having the virus sort of eradicated, at some point you need to engage in vaccines and get them to be protected ultimately,” Sarasota resident,” Bill Crump said.

As the vaccine arrives U.S. COVID-19 deaths surpass 300,000

“I’m very excited that the United States is on the wagon,” Sarasota resident, Jennifer McDonald said. “England is at least a week ahead of us and that’s surprised me, but good for them. And I will right there whenever it’s available to me because I was vaccinated for polio, measles, whooping cough, this is no different. There’s nothing to be afraid of, really.”

“I say yes to vaccines, but I’m concerned. It’s brand new; new virus, the new vaccine, record time, false information all the way around. Crazy times,” Sarasota Resident Aliki Gable said.

A Sarasota resident who wishes not to show his face has reservations about the speed in which the vaccine was created.

“I personally feel that I’d like to see a vaccine go through more testing,” the anonymous person said. “I would not be first in line, it’s gone through this rapid process and it’s a little scary. I wish it wasn’t  such a politically driven controversy overall

Manatee County resident, Marie Carey says she’ll be first in line.

“We’ve got three-hundred thousand people that are dead and if the scientists and Dr. Fauci say it’s ready to go, I believe them, I believe the scientists,” Carey said.

It’s clear the Suncoast has mixed feelings about the COVID-19 vaccination. In Sarasota, SNN, the Suncoast News Network.

Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is but the first to roll out.  Moderna is next in line as it passes through federal review.
