SARASOTA (SNN TV) – A Suncoast pizzeria makes a list of top 20 pizzerias in America, and it’s the only Florida pizza place on the list.
The website “Trips To Discover” lists Rico’s Pizzeria in Gulf Gate as one of the best in the U.S. The Gulf Gate location is not associated with the Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch locations. “Trips to Discover” praises the hand-tossed crust and says, “they say the secret is in the sauce, using an old-school Italian recipe combined with the freshest possible tomatoes and a perfect blend of spices to make what many say is the best New York-style pizza in Florida.”
The Herald-Tribune’s dining editor Wade Tatangelo says he needs to go back. He enjoyed a slice in 2015 and did include a Gulf Gate pizzeria in his 2023 list of best pizza in Sarasota and Bradenton — but it wasn’t Rico’s. It was RomanSQ.
Rico’s is located at 6547 Gateway Avenue in Sarasota and has been in business since May 29th, 1999.
