SARASOTA – The Suncoast Blood Bank hosted several blood drives across Sarasota County in support of blood donations.

The non-profit parked one of their many blood mobiles in front of Lucky’s Market at the Westfield Siesta Key Mall Sunday morning. Director of Community Development Jayne Giroux says the holidays are a time when less people tend to donate blood and are in critical need of donations.

“The holidays starting about now through New Year’s is an extremely tough times for us to collect blood products, and it’s one of our higher usage times,” said Giroux. “People are stressed, they’re distracted, they’re in traumas, cancer patients need the blood products they need to be fortified to get through the holidays.”

Giroux says the blood bank is currently in critical need of O+ and O- blood. To find out when the next blood drive is visit or to volunteer visit scbb.org
