VENICE – A Suncoast animal rescue hit by Hurricane Ian got a special surprise just in time for the holidays.

The True & Faithful Pet Rescue in Venice, which specializes in saving seniors and unwanted dogs from high kill shelters, was one of many places on the Suncoast battered by hurricane Ian and left with destruction. But a letter from a 9-year-old, rescue resident, Pomeranian pup, Tito to Chewy Clause, made their wishes come true.

“When hurricane Ian hit he was absolutely devastated along with all of his friends, the property was severely damaged and his beach was completely destroyed and he wrote to chewy clause in hopes that they would help him and all of his friends at true and faithful have some relief from this hurricane,” said Volunteer at True & Faithful rescue, Madison Mulvihill.

Chewy Claus delivered by providing a 20-thousand-pound truckload of food, assembling a team of volunteers for a clean-up day and donating the necessary funds to rebuild their beloved dog beach at True and Faithful and allow them to help other pet owners in need.

“We want to see these letters come in, we want to make a huge impact for pets and the people that take care of them just because is the right thing to do and what chewy is all about,” said Associate Director of Shelter & Rescues at Chewy, Colman Muñoz.

Before, during and after the hurricane, the shelter took in more than 30 senior dogs. President of True and Faithful, Lisa Letson says the gift from Chewy Clause could not have come at a better time

“All of our families that are in need have 2 and 3 extra bags of food in their cupboards, several of them have new stockings, that wouldn’t of had stockings, they have supplies, were just very grateful because giving back is what we do best,” said Letson.

“Animals give unconditional love and for people to dump them and not be here for them in hard times, when they become seniors r have medical conditions, it just absolutely breaks our heart and being here in this kind of setting and sanctuary its just so important that we do that for them and we take care of them,” said Mulvihill.

All letters submitted to Chewy Clause before December 15 will be read and gifts will be delivered to pets before the New Year. For more details, you can visit, their website here.
