SARASOTA – A deputy involved shooting Sunday evening sends one man to the hospital.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is reporting they received a call just after 6:30 p.m. of a suicidal suspect in the 5900 block of Wilkinson Road.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office says once deputies arrived on scene 59-year-old Michael Gillogly of Sarasota was seen in the parking lot with a handgun.

Deputies say Gillogly “made several suicidal threats and raised a handgun to his head.” He fired one shot in the air — and then aimed and fired a round at one of the deputies.

The deputies returned fire striking Gillogly. He was later transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive.

No deputies were injured, and the investigation remains ongoing.
