FLORIDA (SNN TV) – Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott revises his controversial proposal to sunset all federal programs in five years.

The updated version of his “Rescue America” plan now exempts essential services like Medicare and Social Security. The original plan didn’t include any exemptions.

Since introducing the plan, Scott has had trouble defending it. Both Democrats and some Republicans say it would endanger popular entitlement programs.

President Joe Biden seized on the proposal in his State of the Union address earlier this month and attempted to tie Republicans to Scott’s idea, which led to an animated back-and-forth with GOP lawmakers during his speech.

Scott is running for reelection for his Senate seat in November 2024.
