BRADENTON (SNN-TV) – The SCF Manatees opened up their regular season tonight at home at Hal Chasey Gymnasium against the Eagles of Polk State.

These two teams are no strangers to one another, having most recently met in the championship game of the Suncoast Conference Tournament where SCF came out on top 92-74.

Tonight’s contest was filled with high energy, as Coach Tom Parks Manatees looked to start the season off right, with the help from Kwo Agwa in the early going from the outside.

The Manatees were also bolstered by their returning leading scorer James “Pop” Weathers who led the Manatees tonight with 24 points.

Despite the stellar effort from Weathers, the Eagles had 4 players score in double figures, led by Tommie Lewis who finished with 24 points, and Eric Butler who nailed 5 3-pointers and ended with 19 of his own.

The onslaught of scoring from the Eagles down the stretch would keep the Manatees at bay, and they’d lose this one tonight, 98-84.
