SARASOTA COUNTY (SNN TV) – The Sarasota County School Board cancels a special meeting that was scheduled in a move to push the superintendent’s departure.
The Herald-Tribune reports the cancellation comes days after a November 29th public meeting erupted in anger at the board’s decision to remove Asplen.
School board chairwoman Bridget Ziegler said the meeting was canceled due to a lack of business items requested from other board members. The board decided Tuesday to pursue negotiations with Asplen for his resignation rather than terminate his contract.
Supporters of the superintendent lashed out against the school board’s abrupt decision, accusing the board’s new conservative majority of choosing politics over rationale in a nearly five-hour meeting.
The board voted 4-1 to negotiate a resignation.
