EL PASO, TX (SNN-TV) – On New Year’s Eve, two Sarasota natives rang in the New Year with a bowl game victory as Central Michigan University defeated Washington State in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.

Former Booker High School defensive lineman, Jacques Bristol and former Sarasota High receiver Ke’Andre Collins were a part of the Chippewas 24-21 upset victory of the Cougars.

The 9-4 Chippewas took a 21-0 lead in the first half and held on for the win.

Bristol graduated from Booker in 2019 and tallied 35 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles in 12 games this season for CMU.

Collins graduated from Sarasota High in 2020 and finished his senior season for the Sailors with 711 all-purpose yards.

The Sun Bowl victory was CMU’s first bowl win since 2012, when the Chippewas edged Western Kentucky, 24-21, in the Little Caesars Bowl.
