SARASOTA – Hundreds of different county employees from various branches of local government worked closely at the Emergency Service Center in Sarasota to mock a category four hurricane making direct landfall in Sarasota.

Ed McCrane with the emergency center says the staff had to prepare for a devastating storm because of the impact hurricane Michael left on the Panhandle.

“We hope we never see it, but we had to plan for it and give the teams an opportunity to think about the big issues we’re going to deal with if this happens,” said McCrane. “This happened with hurricane Michael, this happened in Bay County last October and they’re still dealing with it.”

McCrane encourages people to have their own plan ready and to get enough supplies to last a week. For a full list on how to stay prepared this hurricane season head to the county’s website at scgov.net.
