MIAMI (SNN-TV) – 12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte has decided to auction off half of his medals to benefit a children’s charity.
Lochte’s 12 Olympic medals are tied for the 2nd-most among swimmers, trailing only Michael Phelps total of 28.
The 37-year-old Lochte, who has competed in four Olympics, wants to sell his medals to benefit the Jorge Nation Foundation.
The Miami charity is one he’s worked with for ten years that, much like Make-a-Wish, helps children with terminal illness.
Boston-based RR Auction will handle the sale which is expected to raise at least $82,000 for the non-profit.
Lochte, who has kids of his own now, says he didn’t want the medals collecting dust when the proceeds could help children in need.
