SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN TV) — The city of Sarasota approves a multi-million dollar academic center for a Suncoast college.

The Herald-Tribune reports the Sarasota Planning Board approved plans for a Signature Academic Building at its meeting Wednesday.

The building will span 100,000 square feet over four stories. It’ll function as a hybrid welcome center, event space, and hub for academic labs and faculty offices.

Ringling Associate Vice President of Facilities Tracy Wagner said it will offer labs and studios for all students but focus on those specializing in technology; computer animation, virtual reality, game art, entertainment design and more.

Completion is estimated for 2027 with construction beginning in April. Construction costs total an estimated $95 million.

Ringling’s development plan also calls for a new academic building once the school reaches 1,750 students. Enrollment as of the beginning of this school year is 1,720, Wagner said.
