SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – Red tide is on all 16 beaches of Sarasota County.

The image of a dead fish is from Caspersen Beach.

There are red tide notification signs posted at every beach. The County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources staff said they noticed mild respiratory irritation at Lido and Siesta Key Beach.

But this didn’t stop visitors from enjoying their day at the beach.

“A lot of my buddies are like, is your vacation ruined cause of the red tide,” visiting from Georgia, Tony Chung said. “We’re like, it’s not that bad. This is the most fish we’ve seen. My son’s got asthma, we came out and we wore our masks, but it’s not bad. We understand.”

As part of their regular operations, county staff conducts weekly beach monitoring on these beaches and other public county beaches.

Staff will continue to evaluate conditions to determine whether the beach clean-up operation will be activated. There is no cleanup planned for today.
