PALMETTO (SNN-TV) – Big news today out of Palmetto, where a month after Dave Marino resigned as head football coach, the Tigers named their new man-in-charge earlier today.

Palmetto High School has named former Lakewood Ranch head football coach Rashad West to the same position. West takes over the program one month after Dave Marino resigned.

West is coming off a 6-4 season with Lakewood Ranch, where they just missed the playoffs. The former Southeast player and coach, was hired at Lakewood Ranch in 2019 and revitalized the program, and accrued a record of 21-18 in 4 seasons, after 5 seasons of sub-500 football prior to his time at the Ranch.

West takes over the reins of a Palmetto program that also finished 6-4 last year with a first round playoff exit. The change at head coach is the first for Palmetto since 2010 when the Tigers named then offensive line coach Dave Marino to the job. West played for and coached with Marino when he was on Paul Maechtle’s staff at Southeast and looks to continue to build on the success that Marino has had.

“I was fortunate enough I played for him, I coached with him. He did a great job here building this thing. We want to continue to piggyback some of the things he did, but put our own spin on it. And take to whatever the next level may mean, but we want to do those things, do it our way. He did some great things here, but we’re going to do it our way here, and continue to grow the program.”

West first intentions are to fill-out the Palmetto schedule, get to know his players, and implement his air-raid offense.
