MANATEE COUNTY (WSNN) – A group of women is making their stance on abortion seen rather than heard.

Abortion wasn’t on the agenda today for the Commissioners meeting in Manatee county.

Members of Women’s Voices of South West Florida dressed up as characters from ’The Handmaid’s Tale.’ The show is about women who are oppressed and forced to have children in a patriarchal society.

Last month, Commissioner James Satcher proposed an abortion ban for the county. It has not been put up for a vote.

The women in costumes held signs rather than chanting, telling us that they felt like silence is more appropriate.

“Our pro-choice stance is not anti-adoption, it is not pro-abortion, it is not anti-crisis pregnancy center,” member Kate DanehySamitz said. “Woman Our expectation of our government officials is to provide the resources and the freedom to allow a woman the right to choose what happens to her own body.”

They say they want the money and time spent to ban abortion to instead help the 14-hundred children in foster care on the Suncoast.

There are no abortion clinics in Manatee county.
