SARASOTA – Often times through tragedies organizations meant to help victims are created. That was the case for the onePULSE Foundation.

“Because we won’t let hate win, so this is our way of saying he didn’t win, and that… love wins,” said Owner of PULSE Nightclub, Barbara Poma.

It’s been five years since the PULSE Nightclub tragedy in Orlando took the lives of 49 people.

Owner of Pulse Nightclub Barbara Poma launched the onePULSE Foundation as a way to honor the 49 lives taken that night, and to provide help for the victims’ families and those who survived.

“During Covid we were able to move the needle on a lot of our programs,” said Poma. “The one pulse academy education tribute program will be launching this year too as well and an online platform as well as in person, now that people can do that.”

The foundation is partnering with social psychologist, Dr. Earl Mowatt to provide an educational program developing a curriculum to ensure that a tragedy like this does not happen again.

“What he has developed is a three module program. In about how we think and relate and influence one another, and really being able to focus on those three aspects of learning or re-wiring helps people to understand what their understanding is today how they can do it better and take it back to their own families and workplaces and into their communities,” said Poma.

Poma, a former teacher, wanted the foundation to honor those killed on June 12th by creating scholarships based on the Angels’ interests, careers or aspirations.

“These are some remarkable recipients doing great work in all different fields, whether it be medical, psychological, accounting or finance, they’re really all over the spectrum,” said Poma.

onePULSE Foundation has created the OutLove Hate campaign to gather support for their shared goal to win by loving.
