SARASOTA – A vital national defense spending bill is facing a possible veto from President Trump.
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is currently being constructed by congress. It’s a bipartisan bill that focuses on the country’s defense policy. According to a Tuesday night tweet, Trump called Section 230 “very dangerous and unfair.”
FL Representative Greg Steube, District 17, recently introduced a legislative bill to bring reform to Section 230.
Rep. Steube and four other Republicans released a report claiming that “big tech” companies like Facebook and Twitter and other search engines are censoring posts made predominantly by conservatives.
Rep. Steube says in censoring conservatives’ posts and tweets Americans first amendment rights are being violated.
He says it’s about time the president sheds light on this issue of social media platforms violating Americans first amendment right.
“Well when I saw the tweet, I was surprised, and happy the president’s attention is on this very important issue to our country,” said Rep. Steube. “So for him to enlighten the issue and bring it to the forefront of the NDAA discussions I think bringing more attention to a very serious issue that’s facing our country.”
The president says he has issues with a provision that could act as a legal shield for tech companies’ handling of user content.
