BRADENTON (SNN-TV) – Steele Industries Inc. and Manatee Marine Unlimited owner Julian Maldonado are taking part in this weekend’s event, with their SuperStock Class boat, “Steele”.
Julian, the throttle man aboard Steele, has been racing since 2018 and is in his first season in SuperStock. But, the sport is nothing new to Julian, whose father Ricky Maldonado has been racing for over 30 years, and mans his boat “Jackhammer”.
For the first time this year, they will be racing against one another. Julian hopes to apply all the tools and tricks he’s learned from his father this weekend.
“It’s been around me all my life. I grew up with him doing it, just [being] a helping hand wherever I can. I obviously learned a lot from him, and now I get to race against him.”
Both Julian and his father’s class of boats will begin racing Sunday at 2:15pm.
