PITTSBURGH, PA (SNN-TV) – Outfielder Bryan Reynolds and the Pittsburgh Pirates are in agreement on an eight-year, $106M contract extension, marking the largest deal in franchise history amid Pittsburgh’s scorching start.
After talks between the sides fell apart during spring training when Reynolds requested an opt-out, they picked up in recent days, and a limited no-trade clause helped push the deal across the finish line. Before this deal, the Pirates had been one of four major league teams to have never signed a player to a $100M contract, along with the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics.
Reynolds is off to a hot start hitting .294 and leads the team with 18 RBIs. Reynolds has aided the Pirates to a 16-7 record, the best in the National League, and second only to the 20-3 Rays.
