(WSNN) – Cubans are demanding change, seeking an end to the communist regime. People across the nation are showing support.

We’ve never seen anything like it. Thousands are on the streets in Cuba fighting for their freedom and rights. As a Cuban American myself, my family and friends have been waiting for this moment for a very long time.

“This is a historical moment,” Cuban American, Rafael Trensado said in Spanish.

“It’s really sad to see the people of your Cuba, of your people. bleeding in the streets and they’re only they’re asking for is freedom,” Cuban American Mirelys Carbajal said in Spanish.

From Miami to the Suncoast, many are showing support for the Cubans who are fighting for their freedom.

Cubans are furious …

“We have spent 62 years in extreme poverty, hunger, the misery of arbitrary intentions,” Trensado said. “And honestly, the people are tired and the time has come for a change in Cuba.”

Trensado came to the U.S. a few years ago to work. He says the Cubans have been blind to the communist regime for too long. With the help of the internet, they aren’t anymore.

“I feel prouder than ever to be Cuban,” Trensado said. “The Cubans finally realized the lies.”

Some have reached their breaking point, and are putting their lives on the line to fight.

“I’m afraid for my people, for my blood, I’m afraid,” Carbajal said. “But in all reality, I think fear has been the biggest problem that we’ve had to face. And I think the Cubans are fighting using that fear in their favor.”

With internet and phone services shut off in Cuba. Carbajal doesn’t’ know what’s happening to her brother. All she can do is spread the word about Cuba here.

“My heart is there with them as if I was in the streets,” Carbajal said. “I’m another person in the streets with them.”

Trensado says this is the beginning to an end.

“This is a dream for me and many other Cubans,” Trensado said. “For those in and out of Cuba, we want a positive change for our country, a system change.”

Many Cubans here in the U.S. say they want intervention. Several people protested in Washington D.C. today to ask for help. South Florida leaders and President Joe Biden say they stand in solidarity with the people of Cuba.
