SARASOTA – Revv your engine car lovers…

“It’s just a way for people to get together, relax, on a chamber of commerce day,” said Interim President of Our Y, Jim Purdy.

Our Y hosted its second annual car show Saturday morning. Event coordinator Pamela Peters says something stuck out at an Our Y event in the past

“I didn’t realize we had so many members in our facility that had vintage cars so then I go, we should organize a car show, so then we organized a car show and it’s just grown from last year to this year it’s gotten a lot better and a lot bigger,” said Our Y Event Coordinator, Pamela Peters.

The car show displayed over 50 cars, from vintage to modern and included live music. Peters said with the need for food, Our Y decided to help another non-profit.

“We have troupe 895, Boy Scout troop that came, so it’s one nonprofit helping another non-profit, so they’re going to be selling hot dogs and hamburgers and they get to keep the money for their troop,” said Peters.

All proceeds from the event will benefit youth development programs. Peters said the event was a perfect way to bring Suncoast residents together in a safe way

“I think everybody has tried to do some type of an activity where they get to socialize with other people without being unsafe, so we figured this is an outside event, we have been asking everybody to wear masks, to be socially distant and we have spaced the cars out far enough apart, and I think everyone is enjoying that, where they are getting out for the first time in a while and doing something social,” said Peters.
