NOKOMIS – One woman is dead and a suspect is detained following a shooting that happened at a trailer park community in Nokomis Thursday afternoon. Investigators are still trying to piece together what may have happened.

Anxious neighbors patiently wait outside their homes after several of them allegedly heard gunshots at around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday. Deputies arrived at the Palm & Pines Mobile & RV Park located near Tamiami Trail and Avenida La Palma to find one woman dead and searching for a suspect.

“When deputies arrived her they found a 52-year-old victim deceased, and deputies also made contact with another party who was present,” Lieutenant Jason Mruszek

Deputies have yet to release the identity of the victim as they are working on alerting their family. Lt. Mruszek says all parties have been accounted for and there’s no immediate threat to the public. At this time deputies don’t have a suspect detained as it’s still too early in the investigation.

But one neighbor who wishes to remain anonymous tells me there have been ongoing disputes between the residents of the mobile park and management that could’ve lead to this deadly argument.

“I believe it all came down to our terrible management, Lake Shore Management, our poor Linda was  just a messenger and she got  shot for being the messenger from Lake Shore Management,” she said.

The neighbor tells me management wanted to evict one of the residents amid the global health pandemic. She says the management has taken advantage of the residents by increasing rents and price of amenities that are even available at their disposal.

“And management wanted her to throw this poor old little old man, whose what 85-90 and been here 20 years shame on management, Lake Shore Management,” the anonymous neighbor said. “They don’t care about us. It’s a shame and all the residents really are upset about our water bill, our rent increases. I mean we’re getting nothing out of it.”

The neighbor tells me many are angry at the poor management skills that unfortunately left one the mere messenger between the tenants and the landlord dead.

“Can’t do anything about it, Linda says ‘it’s what it is it’s what it is’ she was just a messenger but she paid their – their fault she paid for it. Shame on Lake Shore that’s all I’ve got to say,” she said.

SNN was not able to confirm the name of victim or the suspect in the shooting with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. We reached out to the management team but no one was immediately available. SNN plans to reach out to the management property of the Trailer park community for further comment.

This is an ongoing investigation and we’ll be sure to update you with the latest information as soon as they become available.
