SARASOTA – Nurses at Doctor’s Hospital of Sarasota are protesting unsafe working conditions for the men and women at the front-line of the pandemic.

Nurses at the hospital are reporting the lack of medical supplies is putting them and other patients at risk of contracting the deadly disease. Some are saying they are being limited to one face mask a day, and not all nurses are given the protective N95 Masks. And at times are not fully informed of all patients they’ve interacted with that tested positive for the virus.

“The COVID-19 is a very serious very infectious disease and we want to be able to be sure to be able to take care of our patients properly and safely and in order to do that we need the proper tools,” said Geniece Hunt.

Hunt, a 26 year registered nurse says nurses are made to sign in and out the face masks they wear, and are also in need of gloves, gowns, and the equipment need to treat the patients that test positive.

Protectnurses.org is a place the public can go to say ‘Hey, protect our nurses!’ and they can write to their congressman and get the word out that yeah we need to protect our healthcare workers because without us what’re we going to do? How are we going to take care of our patients if we’re patients ourselves?” said Hunt.

SNN received a statement from Doctors Hospital parent company H-C-A healthcare stating nurse and other medical staff will receive appropriate pay for their work, but did not mention the shortage of supplies nurses are reporting.
