NORTH PORT – North Port Police have made an arrest in connection to a murder that occurred in September.

North Port Police arrested 21-year old Juan Salazar-Diaz of Punta Gorda for the murder of Tyren Kinard who was known on social media as Londonn Moore

“He was arrested this morning, we had eyes on him,” says Josh Taylor, Public Information Officer of the City of North Port.

Officers  arrested Salazar Wednesday morning. They say DNA evidence played a major role in this arrest.

“Technology has come a long way we were able to – good police work initially at the scene to gather evidence to make sure things aren’t missed,” says Taylor.

Moore’s body was found in a secluded area on Sawyer Circle near the Charlotte County line on September 8th.

According to Equality Florida, a LGBTQ civil rights group, Moore is the 5th black transgender woman this year to be found murdered in Florida and the 26th in the country

“We’re the voice of the victim. We’re going to do everything we can to get answers,” says Taylor

Authorities say because Moore did not self-identify a transgender woman they did not include her preferred name on the report which left some people upset.

“We have a policy we’ve been very progressive I would say in that nature. We just need to know what preference they have and we’ll certainly use that. The next step is to talk to family and close friends and they were insistent that he was not a transgender woman.”

Salazar is now being charged with second degree murder, Grand Theft Auto, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He’s being held at the Charlotte County jail.
