SARASOTA (SNN TV) – A new playground is coming to Sarasota’s Bayfront Park in October.

The city of Sarasota will replace the Allen Playground and Steigerwalt-Jockey Children’s Fountain. That had a concrete stadium seating design. The new splash pad, playground, and parent/guardian seating will be on the same level, the Herald-Tribune reports.

The new splash pad will have buttons children can press to turn on the water; that will reduce maintenance issues created by constant running water in the previous fountain.

The theme will be a pirate shipwreck theme with climbing features and a Kraken. Three oak trees will replace two now-removed laurel ficus trees.

The $3 million project is expected to be completed in October.
