MANATEE COUNTY (SNN TV) – The Manatee County Commission approves plans for a new residential community in Palmetto, while a project in Ellenton hits a speed bump.

According to the Herald-Tribune, the county approved a preliminary site plan for an over 21-acre property located on the northwest corner of U.S. 41 and Bayshore Road in Palmetto. Plans call for 146 single family homes and a public playground. These plans were approved in 2005 but had to be renewed since they expired.

Developers are requesting Manatee County approve a plan for 250 single-family homes, 80 marina slips, and 143,000 square feet of non-residential use space for retail, offices, restaurants, and a hotel in Ellenton. This site would be located on the south side of U.S. 301 North, a half-mile east of I-75. However, the county commission was apprehensive because no preliminary site plan was submitted that detailed plans for development.

However, the county did unanimously approve zoning changes for a new Holiday Inn Express in Ellenton. This will be located along the Manatee River waterfront off of 18th street and just east of the I-75 intersection with U.S. 301 North.
