SARASOTA (SNN TV) – New College provost Suzanne Sherman steps down, according to the college.

She clashed with two new DeSantis-appointed trustees early this year; she wanted to cancel a January meeting over death threats.

She started working at New College more than 30 years ago and became provost in 2020.

This continues large changes at the college with the hiring of a former Republican operative to be vice president of enrollment management. Governor Ron DeSantis said he hopes to make New College like Hillsdale College, a conservative Christian school in Michigan.

The Herald-Tribune reports New College Professor Amy Reid says Sherman strengthened the program and was a dedicated member of the faculty, but that it would be hard for Sherman to stay at the college with a new philosophy being “imposed on the College.”
