SARASOTA COUNTY (WSNN) – The Suncoast Blood Centers is rolling out with a new mobile unit.

Different than the large vans, these are smaller vehicles that offer a concierge service.

The mobile unit goes to your home, parks in the drive-way, and welcomes you to their cozy-friendly atmosphere. And they return to your home in 56 days.

The service started this month with three mobile units for a summer trial run.

All made possible through local community foundations.

Community Liaison, Joan Leonard, says she’s lucky to be a part of this community.

“We’re only the second blood bank in the whole country that offers a program like this,” Leonard said. “So, we like to tend to be first in a lot of innovative ideas.”

Yesterday, the blood bank was awarded Sarasota Chamber’s non-profit of the year.

They serve four counties, 12 hospitals, and communities across state lines, hen a natural disaster hits like Hurricane Laura and the California fires.

Leonard, says they’re always in need, so if you would like to donate blood or plasma visit their website for more information.
