SARASOTA & CHARLOTTE COUNTIES – More fliers are attacking state Senator Joe Gruters‘ opponent for his far-right views, and these fliers, like the last ones, have ties to Gruters.
After Democrats received fliers from the same group that called Michael Johnson a “MAGA clown,” another one is being mailed calling him a Trump sycophant who’s Islamophobic and a COVID fearmonger.
The fliers are being sent out by a group who’s received donations from the Republican Party of Florida, which Gruters chairs. This group is attacking Johnson’s connection to Trump despite Gruters being endorsed by Trump. Gruters denies involvement with the fliers.
Gruters and Johnson are running for the same seat in August. Since no Democrat is running against them in the general election, Democrats can vote in the primary since that’ll decide the race. That means these two Republicans need to attract Democrats to win.
