FORT MYERS (SNN-TV) – In Fort Myers this morning, the Minnesota Twins formally welcomed shortstop Carlos Correa to the team during a news conference.

The team and Correa agreed to a three-year, $105.3 million contract through the 2024 season. The contract will pay Correa $35.1 million annually, making him baseball’s fourth-highest paid player.

Correa, a former Houston Astro, hit .279 with 26 home runs and 92 RBI’s in 148 games last season.

The slugger spoke to MLB Network earlier today about his decision to become a Minnesota Twin.

“I see a lot of talent in the clubhouse. I want to build that championship culture, that championship mentality in this clubhouse in order for us to be great moving forward.”

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft has spent his entire career with the Astros. Whether or not Correa will be in the lineup is unknown, but the Twins visit the Pirates at LECOM Park this Friday at 1:05pm.
