MANATEE COUNTY – The Manatee County School Board will make the decision on whether to have a mask mandate in place next school year.

Following, Florida’s Education Commissioner, Richard Corcoran’s statement, telling state school districts to make masks in school optional beginning next school year, Director of Communications for Manatee County Schools, Michael Barber says the decision is up to the School Board, who will discuss the matter at their next meeting.

Barber says decisions on how the schools operate in terms of health and COVID are made by the board depending on the circumstances in the county.

“We want to give parents as much advanced notice as possible, as to what to expect but at the same time decision making is going to be based on events as they are unfolding at that time. One thing we have learned from COVID is things can change very rapidly and dramatically so we are always prepared to make those changes,” said Director of Communications of Manatee County Schools, Michael Barber.

The next Manatee County School Board meeting will be on Tuesday, April 27th.
