BRADENTON – “This is a lot harder than I thought. I didn’t even know where to begin,” said Karina Lopez.

Their life shattered and their home left in pieces after a natural gas leak causes the home on 8th St. Ct. W. to explode. Destroying the place Karina Lopez and her family once called home.

“My mom is still in shock of everything and of course the images keep playing in her head,” said Karina.

The Lopez family still reeling from what transpired last week still engraved in their minds. After reports of a gas leak in the 2900 block of 8th ST. C W. Thursday morning, emergency units began to evacuate the surrounding neighborhoods.

But Francisca Lopez says she and her family were not warned of the danger, which resulted in her husband Adrian Sr. and her 23-year-old son Adrian Jr. to suffer second and three degree burns all over their body following an explosion near the families home.

“They’re just stable for now but I mean they’re burned so this is going to be a very long process,” said Roger Lopez.

Roger Karina’s uncle, traveled from Portland to be with the family. He says it’s difficult to see the home, and is just grateful his brother and nephew survived the ordeal.

But the road to recovery will be a long one. A spokesman for the family tells SNN Francisca remains in the hospital after initial reports say her heart suffered damages from the natural gas she inhaled. Adrian Sr. & Jr. remain in critical condition with severe burns.

County commissioners at the press conference say those responsible for the gas leak and explosion will be held accountable, but for now their focus is on providing help and support for the family.

“This is a very unfortunate situation, but we want to make sure that there’s some accountability there,” said Commissioner Reggie Bellamy. “But more importantly that we show some concern to the individual that was impacted so we can extend to them a level of comfort also.”

The Lopez family says they’ve received an out pour of support from the community. If anyone would like to help donations can be made to the GoFundMe account set up for the family.
