NORTH PORT, Fla. (SNN TV) – The Environmental Conservancy of North Port and Surrounding Areas raises enough money in its latest fundraising campaign.

The nonprofit is using these funds to buy two adjacent laws for Florida Scrub Jay habitat and to build up reserves for its new purchase, which could be in Englewood.

The president of the board of directors told the Herald-Tribune they received a $25,000 donation from an anonymous group in Sarasota, plus $10,000 from a repeat donor.

The nonprofit buys and preserves land in Sarasota and Charlotte counties. It has parcels in North Port, Harbour Heights, and Port Charlotte. The conservancy is also looking at buying parcels in Gulf Cove and Rotonda West.

The conservancy is hosting a meeting Sunday, August 27 to build a volunteer base for native plant growers and rescuers. It’ll be at 6 p.m. at the Shannon Staub Public Library.
