SARASOTA (SNN-TV) – In its 38th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Jordyn Byrd of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School is the 2022-23 Gatorade Florida Volleyball Player of the Year.

Byrd is the first Gatorade Florida Volleyball Player of the Year to be chosen from Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School. The state’s returning Gatorade Player of the Year, the 6-foot-5 senior outside hitter amassed 571 kills and 206 digs this past season, leading the Cougars to the Class 3A state quarterfinals.

Byrd also recorded 52 serving aces and 48 blocks. Ranked as the nation’s No. 16 recruit in the Class of 2023, she concluded her prep volleyball career with 1,640 kills.

The former SNN Student-Athlete of the Month has maintained a 3.69 GPA in the classroom, and has signed a Letter of Intent to play volleyball on scholarship at the University of Texas this fall.

Byrd is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year award to be announced in January.
